Earth Day 2022: Invest In Our Planet
April 22nd is Earth Day, and this year’s theme is to invest in our planet because a green future is a prosperous one. Doing so will improve the lives of every single creature on our planet and even ensure our livelihoods.
Unfortunately, up to this point, the world has been taking baby steps to address climate change, but that needs to end. Instead, we need countries around the world to start running towards a greener future instead of crawling.
If not, we may very run out of time to prevent catastrophic and irreversible damage from occurring. While we may not be the generation that sees the worst effects, future generations will remember us for our decisions.
Let’s take a look at how the world can invest in a green future.
The Decisions We Make Today Matter
When it comes to total spending, investment in green technology has grown tremendously, but so has just about everything else.
One of the best ways we can invest in our future is by investing in renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Both are capable of providing enough energy for everyone on the planet, but building that infrastructure isn’t cheap.
Another smart investment we need to make as a society is strengthening the recycling system on both a local and global level. Many plants are unable to process material that can be recycled. This may lead to less waste ending up in a landfill.
A great way to accomplish this is to force manufacturers to increase the amount of recycled material in products. This will immediately make recycled materials worth more, thus, triggering an investing spree into infrastructure.
There is also a rising need for investment when it comes to protecting wildlife species. Biodiversity is an essential component of our lives and less of it is not good for anyone.
However, investing in the wrong kind of industries might be having an even bigger effect. Thus, it needs to end.
While banks around the world have promised to cut back on investments in both coal and oil fields, that hasn’t happened. In fact, in just the last three years, over $1.5 trillion has been invested into just the coal industry.
As a result, it grew by 9% at a time when it needs to be retired.
Take Part In An Earth Day Celebration/Event
With more restrictions being lifted around the world, Earth Day events are back and more exciting than ever.
If you are interested in attending a local event, you can use the interactive map on the official website to find one. They list the time, location, and activities available. You can also set up your very own event if none are in your area.
However, remember to take the necessary safety precautions when gathering in large groups. If you cannot attend an invent, try making a small donation to an organization like the WWF.
Or, you could even just spend the day starting a garden in your backyard. There’s really no wrong way to go about Earth Day except for not doing anything.
Doing so can make a big difference for the animals they protect.
